How a Cellist Took a DPA 4099 Wireless for a 100K-Subscriber Multi-Scene Livestream

Cellist YOYO Wu (YOYO Cello) recently held a YouTube livestream to celebrate reaching 100,000 subscribers (watch the stream). To let YOYO move gracefully between the performance and Q&A segments, the camera team reached out to CloudVocal for a wireless input and monitoring solution, including going DPA 4099 wireless for the cello itself. Multiple scenes create the need for wireless input and monitoring

Reaching 100,000 subscribers was a milestone, so YOYO’s team wanted to make it a memorable occasion, not just another livestream. Instead of one fixed camera angle, they designed several distinct on-screen scenes and moved between performance and Q&A to keep it visually engaging. That ambition came with a practical catch: the moment a performer starts moving and scenes start changing, wired input and monitoring get in the way of both movement and sound control

SP-10: taking the DPA 4099 wireless

For miking the cello, YOYO has a mic he’s used to: the DPA 4099. Until now, he’d always run it wired.

Because this stream needed freedom to move, we provided the EverSync SP-10, letting YOYO keep his familiar mic while sending the sound wirelessly to the mixing console, feeding straight into the stream’s OBS system and out to the fans watching on the other side of the screen.

With this setup, YOYO could move anywhere during scene changes while the cello signal stayed rock-solid.

EverSync IEM wireless monitoring, for nailing pitch detail

Music channels demand higher audio quality, and things are easily fall apart if the gear can’t keep up. The cello in particular is a fretless instrument where pitch is extremely hard to control, so hearing the instrument and the backing track clearly is essential for intonation and overall balance.

At the console: two wireless systems, no interference

At the console, the SP-10’s input signal goes into the mixer’s Input, while the mixer’s Monitor Out feeds the EverSync IEM, forming a complete wireless input-and-monitoring chain. The two devices run on separate bands with their own proprietary protocols (SP-10 on 2.4GHz, IEM on 5.8GHz), so they stay well clear of interfering with each other.
