FlashTrack FT-15: Years of Evolution

Over our years of working on capturing the sound of instruments, one question kept coming up. Most players already know that wireless gear isn’t really meant for recording — it’s built first and foremost for the convenience of live performance, and pressing it into recording duty usually means more cabling, extra equipment, and compromises in both sound quality and feel. Even so, many musicians loved how integrated and effortless the ISOLO wireless system is on stage, and kept asking us the same thing: was there something just as convenient they could reach for when it came time to record?

So we started asking ourselves: could we make recording simpler? That question is what gave rise to FlashTrack — a system designed from the needs of recording outward, letting creators quickly capture great-sounding takes in a much simpler way.

After more than two years of service and feedback, we saw all kinds of scenarios. Some people travel with FlashTrack, creating in hotels, rehearsal rooms, or wherever they’re staying, paired with a tablet or laptop; others just grab an iPhone to capture daily practice, performance ideas, and finished pieces on the fly. These real scenarios helped us understand what creators actually need, and gave us plenty of directions to improve — things like the dynamic range of the sound, the playback volume on a phone, and how the effect presets are set up. That feedback became the foundation for FlashTrack’s ongoing evolution.

The birth of FT-15: bringing pro-grade technology back to recording

In the two years since FlashTrack launched, Cloudvocal kept developing new products too, including the SonoFlex instrument microphone and the SP-10 pedal-style wireless system. These were designed mainly for professional performance, where they have to hold a stable, excellent sound on bigger stages and in more complex signal environments. Building them gave us a lot of valuable experience in acoustics, circuitry, and audio processing.

When FlashTrack sold out and we sat down to review the next production run, we asked ourselves: could we bring the technology accumulated in those professional products back into a recording product? That’s how FT-15 was born. It carries on FlashTrack’s simple, easy-to-use philosophy while bringing in new development results, giving the microphone a better sound and more complete detail. We hope FT-15 lets players capture the inspiration and emotion of a performance in the most relaxed, effortless way possible.

The “FT” in FT-15 comes from FlashTrack. When the first FlashTrack launched, it was the only product in its line, so we didn’t bother marking a model number. As the technology has been renewed, this generation is officially named FT-15 — carrying on the FlashTrack philosophy while marking a new beginning.

Two years of feedback, distilled into three directions

Across more than two years of sales, we kept listening to feedback from users and musicians. Three things came up again and again: can I hear the recording clearly straight from my phone, will I get tied up in a pile of parameters, and can I record cleanly in environments like home or a classroom? Those three points became FT-15’s main directions for improvement:

Evolution 1: a simpler recording experience that lowers the barrier

From the feedback, we found a very common situation: when players record, their attention is on the playing itself, and tweaking parameters mid-performance is far from natural. For many people new to recording, it’s also not easy to understand the differences between EQ, Compressor, and Reverb, let alone how to set them ideally. So FT-15 redesigned the way the DSP is operated, to make recording more intuitive.

EQ / COMP: more intuitive tone shaping

Previously, EQ and Compressor presets were organized by “scenario,” but most users found it hard to map those scenarios to their needs, which added prep time before recording. FT-15 simplifies the common EQ options into three modes, with frequency points re-tuned to suit the typical conditions of most instruments; the Compressor is likewise set to three modes, so you can quickly find the right dynamic response:

  • EQ: Low Cut, High Cut, Both
  • Compressor: Low, Mid, High

In most cases, you can get a natural, great-sounding result without needing to understand complex frequency and compression parameters. For advanced users familiar with recording, we still keep a 6-band EQ and the full Compressor parameters and other advanced features, for a more complete range of control.

REVERB: find the right sense of space faster

Reverb is the tool that adds space and presence to a recording, but the right reverb varies a lot between musical styles. We sorted out the three most commonly used space types and added a more intuitive Blend control, so you can quickly dial in the effect ratio:

  • Space types: Small Room, Small Hall, Large Hall

No need to dig into complex parameter pages — in a few seconds you can find a fitting sense of space and keep more of your attention on playing.

Evolution 2: louder, fuller recordings

For many people, recording isn’t only about preserving a piece — they want to share it straight to social media. That creates a very practical need: a recording shouldn’t just sound good, it also has to be loud enough.

That’s actually hard to balance. High-quality recording aims to keep the full dynamics and detail, holding the sound within a linear working range as much as possible; phone playback is the opposite — you want the main sound to sit at a higher volume so it’s clear and present the moment you hit play. In the past, this kind of adjustment usually fell to post-production. But FlashTrack’s philosophy has always been “what you hear is what you record,” so we wanted to handle this up front.

To do that, FT-15 introduces a brand-new DRE (Dynamic Range Enhancement) technology. This algorithm analyzes each segment of digital audio in real time, raising the overall volume while protecting the signal from distorting when it gets too loud — so even with higher input sensitivity, the sound stays stable and natural. After extensive testing, we found DRE not only raises volume effectively but barely affects the original tone and detail, so we ultimately built it in as an always-on feature of FT-15: every recording benefits automatically, with no extra switch or setup.

Reducing high-frequency noise on phone playback

Beyond volume, we noticed another common issue: the same recording sounds fine on speakers, monitoring headphones, or a computer, yet on a phone you’re especially likely to hear a high-frequency hiss. The phone isn’t conjuring up new noise out of nowhere. Phone speakers are weak in the lows, with energy concentrated in the mids and highs, and they often boost the upper range — which ends up highlighting the relatively subtle high-frequency noise that was already there. To address this, we added new digital processing that further reduces upper-mid noise on phone playback, without affecting the instrument’s detail.

The end result: compared with the first-generation FlashTrack, audio recorded on FT-15 sounds louder and fuller when played back on a phone.

Evolution 3: more complete, mature microphone hardware

Recording quality depends not only on software algorithms but also on the performance of the microphone itself. For most users, the recording location isn’t a professional studio but home, a classroom, a rehearsal room, or even on the road — so environmental noise, room reflections, and high-sensitivity capture are all challenges the mic has to face.

During FT-15’s development, we brought in the design experience accumulated from the SonoFlex instrument microphone, including optimizations to parts of the preamp circuit architecture, so the sound keeps its detail while presenting a more natural, warm character.

Beyond the circuitry, we also re-tuned the acoustic structure around the capsule. Through sound absorption and structural optimization, we reduced the unnecessary reflections created when ambient sound enters the mic, and cut down the coloration caused by sound bouncing inside the housing — for cleaner, more stable capture. Changes like these may not be as visible as a feature list, but they directly affect the quality of every recording. So while FT-15 is still a USB microphone built around convenient recording, in acoustic design and hardware performance it has taken another step beyond the version of itself from two years ago.

Leaving more time for the music

Looking back at how FlashTrack began, the starting point was always simple: let players use less gear and fewer settings, and leave more time for the music.

Over these two years, every piece of feedback, every shared recording, and every real-world use case helped us see where the product could be better. FT-15 reorganizes and re-implements all of that accumulated experience. Simpler operation, recording performance better suited to the phone era, and more mature microphone hardware all serve the same goal: turning recording from a burden on creativity back into a part of playing.

When inspiration strikes, you shouldn’t have to think about how to set up your gear.

When you’re deep in a performance, you shouldn’t have to worry about whether the sound will be captured in full.

You only need to focus on the music itself. Leave the rest to FT-15.
